Goodbye, Ketchup

Everyone loves sweet potato fries, even people that claim they don't like sweet potatoes, and the great thing is they're popping up on menus from casual to classy all across the U.S. I love them most when they're really, really fried and their skin gets just blistered enough to create a super crispy shell, mm mm. Perfectly fried fries hold up just right allowing them to dip properly into a ramekin of ...wait..what do you dip it in? I've come across just about everything (excluding ketchup) and 97% of the time it's been great (I think the sweet potato has something to do with that.) So goodbye ketchup because sassy sauces are what compliment sweets best. I've rounded up a couple of my favorites.
from Our Best Bites
6 ounces plain, low fat yogurt
1 tablespoon mayonnaise
1/2 tablespoon honey
1/2 a lime
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1/8 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon parsley
1/2 teaspoon minced onion
3/4 teaspoon salt

Combine yogurt, mayonnaise and honey, stir until smooth. Add juice from 1/2 a lime, stir. Add cumin, oregano, parsley, onion and salt, combine thoroughly.

from Vanilla Sugar

1/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup sour cream
3 tablespoons horsey sauce
3 tablespoons caramelized onion
2 tablespoons ketchup
3-4 dashes hot sauces
pinch of cayenne pepper
pinch of chili powder
Combine all ingredients in a bowl, stir until combined. Chill before serving. For a smooth dip, puree ingredients in blender.

from Pinch My Salt

2 oz. dry blue cheese, crumbled
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup buttermilk
dash of onion powder
freshly ground black pepper to taste
For a chunky dip, mix ingredients in a bowl, chill and serve. For a smooth dip, combine ingredients in a blender, whirl until smooth.

yield: about 2/3 cup of dressing

from Prudence Pennywise

1/3 cup whole milk plain yogurt or sour cream
1 teaspoon yellow mustard
1 teaspoon curry powder
1 tablespoon brown sugar
In bowl, combine yogurt, mustard, curry and sugar; mix well.

Looks like mayo, sour cream and yogurt are the dip of choice when it comes to sweet potato fries. Which do you like best? Share your favorite recipe!
